Artist in Residence (AIR) Niederösterreich

Deadline Date:

05/30/22 11:59 PM

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Opportunity for USA, Canada, and International musicians, architects, writers, and visual artists to participate in a residency program in Austria. The purpose of the residency is to promote an exchange of ideas and to provide a venue for international artists to exhibit their work. Residencies will take place in Krems an der Donau, Austria.

Studio apartments and grants shall be awarded based on the premise that foreign artists are to be given the opportunity to work in Lower Austria and get to know different art and cultural institutions in this country. By bringing foreign artists in contact with the Austrian artist scene, AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich seeks to contribute to the internationalization of art in their country and to promote a process of interdisciplinary exchange in the arts.

In some cases, AIR can facilitate the presentation of projects developed in Krems or previously planned artwork. Generally speaking, AIR events are realized in cooperation with a number of art institutions in Lower Austria and Vienna with the aim of establishing a permanent place for AIR projects in the annual programs of these institutions, thus integrating the grant recipients in the Austrian art and artist scene.

Throughout the entire residency, artists receive ongoing assistance and curatorial support in realizing their artistic projects. So that the diversity of contemporary artistic practices can be fully appreciated, AIR focuses on connecting artists and their approaches to existing art and cultural institutions in Lower Austria and Vienna.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich offers living and working spaces for architects, visual artists, musicians and writers.

If the applicant does not have a university degree, proof of equivalent ability must be provided through his or her artistic career. In any case, the applicant must demonstrate regular artistic activity in the proposed areas of funding. Applicants can be artists from the areas of visual arts, music, sound art, literature, and architecture. Austrian artists and artists residing in Austria are not eligible to apply.

There is no age limit for the grant program.

Students may not apply: the program is aimed at artists who have completed their education. Autodidacts can apply, but must show an active artistic activity.

Pre-Application Information:

The application deadline for 2022 is April 19 - May 30, 2022, 23:59.

Applications are accepted only via the online application tool. Applications are not accepted via e-mail.

Since this international exchange takes place primarily on an institutionalized level, private applications can only be accepted once a year during the open call.

Applicants may apply for a residency without an exchange organization, if they meet all application requirements.

Applicants may apply as an artist duo. The amount of the grant (1300 € / month) is fixed however – regardless of the number of artists. If selected, they would have to share one living and workspace.

Participants will be determined by an advisory council for the given discipline.
