Grants of up to $20,000 to Colorado nonprofit organizations, individuals, schools, and businesses in eligible locations for creative music-based programs that advance social justice causes. Funding is intended to develop and implement innovative programs that are rooted in cross-sector collaborations and promote justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. Eligible programs are based in Denver and provide fair pay for all artists. A portion of this fund specifically supports music for youth in grades K-12.

Ideal proposals include:

  • Advancing positive change and addressing historic societal inequities impacting our communities including Black, Indigenous, Latino(x), people of color (BILPOC) communities, our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersexual, asexual, + (LGBTQIA+) communities, people with disabilities, and additional historically marginalized communities.
  • Using music to create a more empathetic and equitable society
  • Demonstrating a clear understanding of a population that lacks access to music, and the economic, social, racial, geographic, or other reasons for this lack of access
  • Identifying an opportunity or addressing a specific need with inclusive and culturally relevant programming
  • Demonstrating a strong knowledge of the perspectives of the audiences engaged
  • Developing creative cross-discipline collaborations
  • Exploring a broad range of musical genres
  • Providing student-centered and culturally relevant instruments and instruction to Denver schools that offer limited or no music education
  • Showing potential for significant artistic and cultural impact on a community
  • Supporting career growth and capacity-building to help build the workforce in difficult times
  • Showing strong artistic vision, risk-taking, and originality
  • Exploring global and culturally diverse connections
  • Understanding the professional and creative landscape of the music ecosystem
  • Emphasizing sustained music-making and other experiential approaches to music instruction.

The Denver Music Advancement Fund may be used to cover expenses directly related to the initiative such as:

  • Program development
  • Supplies and materials
  • Implementation
