Grant Description

Grants of up to $10,000 to Colorado nonprofit organizations, government agencies, tribal organizations, and schools in eligible regions for general operating support. Applicants must contact program staff prior to submitting an application. Funding is intended to support social and emotional health-related programs. Grants are awarded in the 22 counties of Colorado’s Western Slope: Archuleta, Delta, Dolores, Eagle, Garfield, Grand, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Jackson, La Plata, Lake, Mesa, Moffat, Montezuma, Montrose, Ouray, Pitkin, Rio Blanco, Routt, San Juan, San Miguel, and Summit.

The Simple Gifts Fund is intended to increase access to and affordability of social and emotional health. For example: positive youth development and mentoring; adaptive sports, arts, or camps for people living with disabilities; legal aid, respite care, social/emotional supports for seniors and special populations, community gardens, peer support groups, community coalitions.

  • Social/emotional supports (creating social connections and alleviating isolation, especially for seniors and special populations)
  • Positive youth development (afterschool/summer programs that offer kids leadership opportunities, relationship & decision-making skills)
  • Mentoring (1:1 youth to adult mentorships paired for a specified length of time and which may include case management)
  • Adaptive sports, arts, or camps for people living with developmental, cognitive, or physical disabilities or trauma
  • Peer support groups (behavioral health support in a peer-group setting)
  • Community coalitions (local organizations collaborating on a focus issue/population)
  • Community gardens (garden space for community use that may also include nutrition education, or supply fresh food to local food pantries)
  • Early childhood development (training & support by child specialists to enhance the ability of childcare center staff (and/or parents) in helping children achieve full cognitive, emotional, social and physical potential)
  • Legal aid (assistance to low-income individuals/families for legal issues such as child-custody, restraining orders, landlord disputes, immigration)
  • Housing counseling (coaching & tools to help people avoid eviction/foreclosure)
  • Respite care (day or short-term care for elderly/medically fragile/disabled individuals)

The Foundation does not fund:

- Capital construction or endowment campaigns
- Childcare
- Debt reduction or loans
- Educational institutions, except for programs that align with our mission
- Environmental stewardship programs
- Individuals
- Policy, advocacy, or research
- Political causes, candidates, organizations, or campaigns
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Special events
- Sponsorships for events, conferences, speakers
- Travel, conferences, group meetings, or seminars
